Our Story: Revitalizing Your Community Foundation
In the fall of 2017, Envision Chaffee County launched an extensive public planning and action program to craft a better future for Chaffee County. The process was initiated by citizens concerned about the pressure on services, resources, and heritage created by rapid growth. Chaffee County’s population increased by 5.6% in just two years from 2015 to 2017, and growth in visitors is about 8-16% each year.

Over 1,500 citizens and 72 nonprofit organizations, agencies, and local businesses engaged in Envision. Participants developed a shared vision for the future, including healthy forests in balance with outdoor recreation, a thriving and livable economy, a friendly, engaged community, and sustainable agriculture with rural landscapes. Forty collaborative, community-led programs have been put in motion to move our vision toward reality.

One of the top priority projects of Envision is the Chaffee County Community Foundation (CCCF).

The Community Foundation has a unique opportunity to build on Envision momentum. CCCF will be able to engage diverse stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to challenges common across the intermountain west.

Community members describe the Foundation as a “game-changer” that will not only support multiple Envision programs, but also develop sustainable community capacity to prioritize issues, develop solutions, and then support program execution with local grant-making and technical training.

The Foundation has been established as a 501-c-3 charitable organization with an eight-member Board of Directors and an Advisory Board of 24 members and growing.

In over 1,000 other counties, towns, and cities around our country, community foundations have become a philanthropic focal point, serving donors, nonprofit organizations, and the overall community. CCCF has the momentum and leadership to follow those successful models.
